U of L Honors Junior Bridgeman in Home Win Over Memphis

December 13, 2025

In a memorable afternoon at the KFC Yum! Center, the University of Louisville men’s basketball team not only secured a commanding 99–73 victory over the Memphis Tigers but also paused to celebrate one of the program’s enduring legends.

At halftime of the December 13th matchup, Louisville officially retired the late Junior Bridgeman’s No. 10 jersey, adding his name to the rafters as the sixth player in school history to receive the honor. The halftime ceremony paid tribute to Bridgeman’s impact on Cardinal basketball, his contributions to the 1975 Final Four team, and his significant legacy as a player, businessman, and philanthropist.

Bridgeman, who starred at Louisville from 1972–75 and helped lead the Cardinals to the NCAA Final Four, passed away earlier in 2025. The jersey retirement was part of a broader celebration that also recognized the 50th anniversary of the 1975 Final Four team.

Fans at the game were given commemorative tickets honoring Bridgeman, and the program highlighted his enduring influence both on and off the court. The moment united past and present Cardinals in remembering a figure who left an indelible mark on the university and its community.
