February 8, 2025

The University of Louisville Cardinals men’s basketball team secured a significant 88-78 victory over the Miami Hurricanes on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at the KFC Yum! Center. This win bolstered the Cardinals’ season record to 18-6 overall and 11-2 in Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) play.

Despite missing starter Chucky Hepburn, Louisville showcased depth and resilience. Senior guard Terrence Edwards Jr. delivered an outstanding performance, achieving a double-double with 27 points and 10 assists. He was efficient from the field, shooting 10-of-16, including 3-of-4 from beyond the arc, and a perfect 4-of-4 from the free-throw line. Junior guard Reyne Smith also made a significant impact, contributing 26 points, highlighted by six three-pointers.

The Cardinals established an early lead, ending the first half ahead 46-38. They maintained their momentum in the second half, with Edwards Jr. and Smith continuing to apply offensive pressure. Forward J’Vonne Hadley added 12 points and seven rebounds, while forward Khani Rooths provided a boost off the bench with nine points and six rebounds.

Miami’s effort was led by guard Matthew Cleveland, who scored 21 points, and guard A.J. Staton-McCray, who added 22 points off the bench. However, their contributions were insufficient to overcome Louisville’s balanced attack.

Head coach Pat Kelsey praised his team’s performance, emphasizing their resilience in the face of roster challenges. He highlighted the leadership of Edwards Jr. and the collective effort that secured the win.

The Cardinals will next face NC State on Wednesday, February 12, in Raleigh, North Carolina.
